I Stretch My Hand

Naath University Program

I Stretch My Hand provides high school scholarships to bright students in Kakuma Refugee Camp, enabling them to complete secondary education with strong grades. However, after high school, these students face a highly competitive landscape for university scholarships. The main pathway, such as the WUSC (World University Service of Canada) program, offers limited slots despite high demand in Kenya and Uganda. As a result, many qualified students find their options restricted and are unable to access higher education opportunities beyond a few available programs.

To expand their horizons and ensure they are not limited to Canadian universities alone, I Stretch My Hand established the Naath University Program. The goal is to open broader global opportunities, increase the number of students who can pursue higher education, and empower them to compete for a wide range of scholarships and admissions pathways.

What the Program Does:

The Naath University Program equips students with the tools, guidance, and support they need to successfully apply to universities and scholarship programs worldwide. Through this initiative:

  • Students receive guidance on navigating complex university application systems and understanding various financial aid requirements.
  • They are supported in building strong applications, including gathering required documentation, preparing necessary forms, and organizing timelines.
  • Students receive personalized feedback on their personal statements and essays, helping them clearly communicate their goals, strengths, and experiences.
  • They receive assistance with financial aid applications, ensuring they understand eligibility criteria, deadlines, and required materials.

Overall, the program provides a comprehensive and structured pathway for bright refugee students to access global higher education opportunities and pursue their academic ambitions.
